New/Old Hobby
For artistic pursuits, I think that it is healthy to have a hobby, something that is yours. You can take ownership of the hobby and it allows you to have an outlet to the normal grind. My hobby is writing and I am currently working on a novel. I know what you are thinking..."Chris is writing a novel? His blog is replete with misspellings and grammatical errors." And you my friend are correct and you are also proving my point. If you can notice all of the mistakes in my blog then you could have a hobby too...proof-reading my novel. Just kidding, but you don't have to be good at the hobby to make use of it to improve your life and the point is to try something that you have never tried but always thought would be fun. Some people will say that they don't have anytime and I will say to you...that you will find time for the things that you love. For many that is a TV show that they never miss regardless of what is happening that night. Chances are that if you make a hobby of something that you love then you will work it into your schedule. So far I write in the evenings when Caleb goes to sleep and then I don't miss any time with the baby and October is busy blogging or catching a show then I don't miss any time with her either. It has been tougher since I started working out but I manage to grind out a little writing here and there and it has been fun to create a story and see where it takes me. Where can your hobby take you?

So the personal trainer is a sadist...
So I decided to try out a new style of gym called 9 round which is based on a 9 station kickboxing cross training circuit in about a half hour. I went in on wed, worked the 9 station regimen and it was really tough but I felt that nice, slightly euphoric feeling of athletic accomplishment. That feeling that you just did something kind of hard but you persevered and you feel good about yourself. So the guy who was working the circuit training my first day decided that I did really well and should get a personal training session. So I set that up for today and I showed up ready for more circuit training and a cute small girl showed up who was about 25 and she looked harmless. I have to say that I felt a bit relieved like this might not be so bad....boy was I wrong. She was evil. I thought I was going to die...I am not saying that for comic relief, I couldn't breathe and I thought I was going to pass out. Her response to heavy breathing was to tell me to sprint to the edge of the parking lot and back. She then made fun of me. Hit that bag faster! Hit it like you mean it....I almost hit her. There are no breaks for water...which I would not have been able to drink anyway since I couldn't breathe. Man, I know that I am beating up on the personal trainer, but maybe I really am in just that bad of shape. I am glad that I am working out now because apparently, I am bad off health-wise. I am going to have to get in shape enough to get in shape. More to come, including an update on my artistic journey.

Start of the New Journey
I have always been impressed by the famous men of the Renaissance Era of history who took life full on and managed to embrace and excel in multiple aspects of life of several fields of study. Take Aristotle (who lived in ancient greece but was the inspiration for men like Leonardo Da Vinci) for example, who was considered an expert in philosophy, science (biology, zoology, and physics), politics, theatre, and music. He sounds like a guy that could adapt to just about anything. In today's world most people are happy to just be good at one thing but life is kind of boring that way. I want to be more than what I am. This blog is about my journey to become a better person, husband, father, accountant, etc.
To start I realize that I feel pretty nasty and I need to lose some weight. I am currently 6'2" and about 243 pounds. Now I am a "big-boned" boy but let's be honest here....I am also a fat boy, and that has got to change. Tomorrow, I drop the cigarretes and pick up a gym bag. Lets see what kind of progress I can make by the end of the year. The size 40 slacks have got to go. I will keep you updated.
